Nepal is the paradise for birds with nearly 870 species which arguably more than the whole continent of Europe and North Africa combined. Nepal constitutes more than 10% of the world’s total bird species. Just to list a few: eight species of stork, six species of pheasant, eighteen species of cuckoo, three species of crow, cormorant, egret, black ibis, eagle, falcon, duck, chukar, partridge, sarus crane, lapwing pigeon, bengal green pigeon, dove, parakeet, koel cuckoo, owl, vulture, peafowl, red jungle fowl, swallow, black drong, blue jay, wood pecker, black-headed shrike, common myna, red-vented bulbul, paradise flycatcher, brahminy duck, house sparrow, red mania, and hawk. The opportunity to see these and other birds will make your trip a memorable and enjoyable one. These trips also provide panoramic mountain views, glimpses of wild animals and exposure to the local people’s culture and traditions.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
In Kathmandu, you will be received at the airport and transferred to your hotel. After a briefing by your tour leader and an overview about the whole program he could welcome you to a meal in one of the better restaurants in the city. (D)

Day 02:
Drop Off to Airport, Fly to Biratnager & transfer to Koshi Tappu (overnight at hotel in Koshi Tappu)

Day 03: Koshi Tappu
Today we will head for the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve which lies to the eastern part of Nepal. The drive will take us about 6 hours on the east west highway. The Koshi Tappu Reserve is home to the last surviving population of wild buffalo or Arna. There are also many other mammals and birds who find a refuge in this vast reserve. This Reserve was founded in 1976 initially to protect grasslands near the Sapta Kosi River. The reserve is home to various birds and animals. The endangered Gharial crocodile and Gangetic Dolphin have been flourishing in the Koshi River. Rare birds like the Bengal florican and Sarus Crane and more than 400 species of birds have been recorded here including migratory species from Siberia and Tibet.
Our birdwatching tours here will give you great views of birds including Black Ibis, Honey Kites, Ospreys, Black Headed Orioles, Peregrine Falcon, Partridges, and Storks. Halt overnight at a lodge. (BLD)
Day 04:
Bird watching tour to Koshi Tappu, departure
Day 05:
Drive to Chitwan National Park
Arrive at Chitwan National Park Hotel (overnight stay at jungle lodge)

Day 06:
Bird tour to Chitawan National Park, drive to Kathmandu (overnight stay at hotel in Kathmandu)
Day 07:
Bird tour to Sivapuri Conservation Area, shopping in the evening (overnight stay at hotel in Kathmandu)
Day 08:
Departure from Kathmandu
